ASP DAC is Doing WellASP DAC Is Doing Well ASP DAC continues the trend, started at IC CAD, of being a growing, technically superior and exciting conference. It looks like 2011 is going to be a very positive year. There was a lot to talk about but I want to focus on two of the keynotes. I left Japan on Thursday so I missed Professor Subhasish Mitra’s talk on “Robust Systems: from Clouds to Nanometers”.
NON-VOLATILE MEMORY AND NORMALLY-OFF COMPUTING
Dr. Takayuki Kawahara gave a great talk on the future of computing. The demand from the consumer market for computers with a long battery life plus an instant on boot-up is defining the memory market of the future. All computer memory will have to be nonvolatile. The disc drive fits that requirement but does not have the instant on capability. Therefore there will be a demand for a lot of Nonvolatile (NV) RAM. Right now the leading candidate is magnetic RAM.
MANAGING INCREASING COMPLEXITY THROUGH HIGHER-LEVEL OF ABSTRACTION: WHAT THE PAST HAS TAUGHT US ABOUT THE FUTURE.
Dr. Ajoy Bose gave a talk that ranks up there with the talk Lucio Lanza gave at IC CAD. It certainly will go down as one of the most important talks of the year. One of the issues we’ve been having in ESL Design is that there is an idealized Methodology/Design Flow that is confusing the engineers trying to migrate up into an ESL Design flow (my recent blog). Dr. Bose presented a clear picture of today’s ESL Design Flow and where IP fits into that flow. This is a must see presentation.
ASP-DAC 2012
For those of you that haven’t been down under, ASP-DAC has a treat for you next year. It will be held in Sidney, Australia. I know I’m looking forward to it; hope to see you there.
